Whatever I Need Always Comes My Way – The Affirmation Spot for Wednesday March 24, 2010

Today’s Affirmation:

“Whatever I need comes my way.” (hear this affirmation)

During a very difficult part of my life, I used to say this one about 100 times a day. I also used to listen to it when I went to bed at night. I found this thought very effective at responding to the negative thoughts that ruled my life at that time.

It’s a simple affirmation, but contained in it is world of faith, hope, and awareness.

  • Faith: The affirmation communicates faith in its implicit understanding that everything happens for a reason. I know that assertion has almost become trite conventional wisdom. Nonetheless, even science acknowledges discernable patterns in the universe. The Earth does not suddenly begin orbiting the Moon. The ocean tides do not flow in reverse. There is a certain perfection to things. Are our lives an exception? Hardly. When you look back at your life you see that so many things that did not seem to make sense in a moment made perfect sense given perspective. There seems to be a kind of plan to things. You can have faith that the new things coming into your life will also fit into that plan and provide you new opportunities to grow and expand.
  • Hope: The affirmation communicates hope in that it reminds you that there is a flow to things. You are not stuck where we are. New things are coming to you all the time. The universe and your life are in motion constantly. When you get stressed or depressed it is often because you create solidity to a momentary setback. It feels permanent, but it is not. Every day brings new possibilities. “Whatever” is an open book and reminds you that anything is possible.
  • Awareness: The affirmation communicates awareness. Notice it says “whatever I need” not “whatever I want”. The concept here is that there is a certain intelligence or wisdom in the events, people, and things that come your way in life. There are no accidents. Because that is so, you can be confident that you have the wherewithall to handle these things. You really can take lemons and make lemonade. You can handle setbacks and move forward to new levels of achievement.

Today’s affirmation is:

“Today I recognize the miracle that is me and the other miracles all around me.”ggb_trafficjpg.gif

Well it’s Friday and in case you were thinking it is the end of “just another week” here are some things to ponder.

Someday we will all face the end of our walk in this form.

Sometimes during the course of “just another week” we don’t recognize how precious each moment is and how quickly all this is passing us by. We forget what a miracle it is that any of us are here at all.

Have you ever really considered just how many unlikely things had to happen for YOU to be here, or, for that matter, for HERE to be here?

Every single thing we see around us all day long every day was a one in a trillion shot. Each blade of grass, each cloud, each person, even the traffic jam you found yourself in on the way to work this morning – all are totally unlikely combinations that beat the long odds to burst into existence. That’s nothing short of a miracle.

grass1.gifSomeday when you do reach the end of this stage of your journey; this “just another week” may seem a lot more special than it does now. You may wish you had stopped to witness and marvel at the whole miraculous play.

Today, make a point to see the miracles. Tell the person you care most about in this world that you love them and remind them that they are a miracle.

And when you encounter the traffic jam on the way home this evening, breathe deeply and say, “Ah, yes. You are a miracle too.” It won’t get you home any faster, but it will make the ride more enjoyable.

Enjoy a miraculous Friday!!

Be peaceful Be prosperous

“2010 is my year! This is the year I break free. This is the year I break through! This is the year I break out!”

Miley Cyrus Inspires with “The Climb” – The Affirmation Spot for Friday April 24, 2009

Every so often a song comes along that deserves special attention for its inspirational qualities. “The Climb” is the new song from teen star Miley Cyrus. The song appears on the soundtrack of Hanna Montana: The Movie. She has performed it twice on national TV in recent weeks – The Academy of Country Music Awards and American Idol.

Cyrus delivers an inspired, grown-up performance. The song has a catchy melody and a powerful beat that builds throughout. “The Climb” will be happily embedded in your mind for the day with just one listen.

The message is a variation on the “it’s not the destination, but the journey” theme. This affirmational song definitely makes a positive impact on your day. I highly recommend downloading it. I did!

Nice job, Miley! Enjoy.

Conquer The Mountain – The Affirmation Spot for Monday April 13, 2009

Today’s affirmation is:

“It is not the mountain I conquer, but myself. I am reaching for the top of the mountain and my day in the sun is here.”

mountain.gifHenry Ford once said, “Whether or not you believe you can do a thing, you’re right.” In the Book of Matthew, Jesus audaciously states, “Had you the faith of a mustard seed, you could command a mountain to be moved from here to there and it would be so.”

Both statements clearly remind us that we have within us an astonishing capacity to do what would ordinarily be considered miraculous. In both instances, the fuel for the miracles is our belief.

I have often pondered this statement of Jesus and thought, “Ok, I believe it. I command the mountain to move.” Immediately, even before I can get the words out, “common sense” enters my mind and says, “This is nonsense. The world does not work that way.” Doubt has entered the picture. That’s why Jesus started his statement with, “Had you the faith…”

In Buddhism, doubt is one of the “five hindrances” to wisdom and considered the most difficult to overcome. We live in a society that teaches us that doubt and mistrust are prerequisites for our own self-protection. I wonder if the doubt spread by this world view is hindering us, individually and collectively, as we pursue our goals.

Although easier said than done, if we could suspend our disbelief just long enough to allow a firm belief in ourselves and our potential to take root and flourish; we could begin bringing the miraculous into our lives.

Maybe we start with things smaller than mountains like succeeding in our career, or strengthening our friendships and relationships, or simply achieving peace of mind. Then perhaps we can tackle the mountain. But then as Edmund Hilary stated, “It is not the mountain we conquer, but ourselves.”

How true!

Everyone have a great Monday. Find a situation today to suspend your disbelief long enough to allow your miracle.

Being A Rock to Others in Tough Times – The Affirmation Spot for Monday February 9, 2009

Today’s affirmation:

“I have the strength to be a light in this world and to make a positive impact on everyone I encounter today. May I see no one as too important or too unimportant to offer a smile or a kind word.”

rock_bouldersThere’s no way around it we are traversing some challenging times right now. Major companies are announcing layoffs almost every day. Our leaders and the media use words like “catastrophe” to describe what is happening.

How can we stay positive and help those around us stay positive in these times?

You can be a rock to the people around you by carrying a smile on your face, looking people in the eye, and listening with interest and concern. Remember that everyone, regardless of their apparent position, is in the same boat – in this economy and in life.

Little things really make a difference right now. Make it a point to give your family members or your co-workers some undivided attention, if they feel like they need to talk.

Be the person who reassures them that things are working out for the best. Be the person who reminds them change is not good or bad, just different. Be the person who reminds them they have great things – maybe undiscovered – within them that are going to be given an opportunity to shine in this environment.

By being rock to others, you strengthen your own mindset and shift the focus from your concerns to possible solutions and opportunities. Economies are cyclical like the seasons of the Earth.

Dollars, Euros, and Yen are just representations of wealth. The true currency we deal in is the currency of the heart. In these difficult times, make it a point loan as much of that currency as you are able. Spread it around to those less able than you to see the positives and the possibilities right now.

There is only one thing that is permanent in this life. It is neither triumph nor defeat. They are both temporary labels we place on events. The only truly permanent thing is possibility and the world is as ripe with it as it was six months ago.

Keep that in mind. Share it with others. Be a rock in tough times.
