Poem: Ultimate Reality

There are many ways to view the deeper nature of the reality around us.

I wrote this poem in 1993, as one way of seeing that reality.

It expresses the sense of wholeness, devoid of our individual personalities, that underlies the nature of our existence.

It’s a bit existential with some Buddhist overtones. I hope you enjoy and that it makes you think.

“Ultimate Reality”

Cling not to what is fleeting
All is fleeting, therefore, cling not.
Matter and energy, time and space
Are but reflections in the void.

Desire nothing and everything shall you attain
Have everything and, in truth, nothing is yours.
For no holder is there and nothing held;
And nothing to hold, only unity.

I am but a process in gentle progress; simply
Inter-connected energy flowing in a manner
Created by what has come to pass,
Its interaction bringing forth the future.

No self may be found behind the process,
Only a conscious part of a greater whole
Moving back and forth as far as may be seen
Yet, verily, never having moved at all.

“THE OPPORTUNITY OF A FOREVER”

Never before in time and space
has this moment come about;
never shall it come again.
our lives are built on here and now.

Only fools would let this pass
without feeling what we feel.
Let us be calm and let us be bold;
face the fears before which we kneel.

If it’s our past that holds us back,
then let us create a new future.
One where joy fills our hearts
and these feelings of ours mature.

If it is failure we most fear
then let us be filled with trust.
Knowing within that nothing is lost
by honestly expressing our love.

Break Through – A Poem – The Affirmation Spot for Sunday January 23, 2011

“BREAK-THROUGH”

Free now of all reveling
in unimportant things.
Fraught with expectations
full of broken dreams.

Moving right ahead now
with visions grandiose.
Summoning the courage
to conquer all my ghosts.

Knowing in the fullness
of the days that are to come;
my obstacles will fall away
and my fears shall be undone.

Mindful in this moment;
connected to my fate.
My sense of separate self
begins to dissipate.

Dissolving now completely
into the cosmic whole.
All enters my awareness
I reach my final goal.

Knowing for the first time
who I truly am.
I am Universal Mind
and it is but a man.

Don’t Quit! A Video Poem – The Affirmation Spot for Sunday May 3, 2009

Success and happiness are here for all of us to experience in this life. We can experience their miracle each an every day. There are, of course, bigger goals and dreams we have in our lives. These require time, effort, and perseverance.

It’s easy to give up and quit when we don’t see immediate results. In fact, most people do over and over. Someone once referred to this as digging many shallow wells and never finding water. You have to pick your spot and dig your well. Keep digging on good days and bad and one day you will strike water and your dreams will be yours.

The Birds Have Vanished Into the Sky – The Affirmation Spot for Monday January 5, 2009

Beautiful poetry is a doorway into the realm of the soul. For me and I hope you, it can be a highly inspiring and beautiful form of communication.

China has one of the longest and richest poetic traditions in the world.

Li Po (also sometimes called Li Bai) was an 8th century Chinese poet. He is considered by many to be one of the two greatest poets in the long history of Chinese literature.

Approximately 1100 of his poems have survived the centuries. “The Birds Have Vanished Into The Sky” is perhaps his most famous in the Western world.

“The Birds Have Vanished”

(English translation by Sam Hamill)

The birds have vanished into the sky,
and now the last cloud drains away.

We sit together, the mountain and me,
until only the mountain remains.

There are numerous analyses of this poem available on the Internet. I could offer one today as well. However, poetry is an individual experience.What it means is what it means to you.
